His involvement began with their debut album Generation Next (1999), where he provided supporting vocals that contributed to the group's emerging urban bachata sound. Toby Love's musical style is characterized by "crunkchata," a distinctive fusion of traditional Dominican bachata with hip-hop, R&B, and elements, creating a modern urban sound that bridges Latin roots and contemporary American genres. This blend incorporates the rhythmic guitar-driven essence of bachata while layering in heavy beats, synths, and electronic production typical of hip-hop and R&B, often resulting in tracks that alternate between sensual melodies and energetic, club-oriented rhythms. His influences draw from a range of artists who shaped his vocal techniques and soulful delivery, including for emotive phrasing and performance flair, for smooth R&B inflections, and for intricate bachata arrangements. Additionally, his time as a backup singer in Aventura provided a foundational grounding in bachata, emphasizing harmonious group dynamics and romantic lyricism. Love employs a bilingual vocal approach, seamlessly switching between English and Spanish in his lyrics to appeal to diverse audiences, often exploring romantic themes of love, heartbreak, and passion with a mix of poetic introspection and streetwise directness. Modern production techniques, such as for polished vocals and trap-influenced beats, enhance his delivery, allowing for a versatile range from tender ballads to upbeat anthems. His style evolved from the group harmonies and pure bachata focus of his Aventura days in the early , where he contributed background vocals to emotionally charged tracks, to a more individualistic solo career starting in 2006, where he infused urban elements to expand bachata's reach into mainstream pop and Latin urban markets. This shift is exemplified in songs like "Tengo un Amor," which layers hip-hop beats over traditional rhythms, marking his transition to a bolder, genre-blending sound.

Toby Love's contributions to bachata music are marked by his innovation in fusing the genre with urban elements, notably through his creation of "crunkchata," a blend of bachata rhythms with hip-hop and R&B influences that broadened its appeal to a wider Latino and mainstream audience. This stylistic evolution helped bridge traditional Dominican bachata with contemporary urban sounds, making the genre more accessible to younger, urban demographics and contributing to its global expansion during the mid-2000s. His cultural impact extends from his foundational role in Aventura, where he helped propel the group to international fame and revitalized bachata's popularity in the United States, to his solo career, which inspired a new wave of bachata artists. Love's departure from Aventura in 2006 and subsequent solo hits played a key part in the bachata revival, demonstrating how to infuse romantic bachata themes with modern production and crossover appeal.
