The Wuling Binguo (Chinese: 五菱缤果), commonly mentioned in English sources as the Wuling Bingo, is a battery electric subcompact car (A0-class in China)[4] manufactured by SAIC-GM-Wuling (SGMW) since 2023 under the Wuling brand.[5]

Overview

[edit]

Following the success of the Hongguang Mini EV electric microcar, Wuling expanded its range of city cars with a conventional 5-door hatchback called the Binguo.

The Binguo was created for the Chinese domestic market, as a response to other urban electric models.[6] It features retro-inspired styling, distinguished by a round body with oval headlights and rear lamps. The body comes in four colours, three with a contrasting painted roof: white and black, green and black or pink and white, as well as fully black.[7]

The passenger compartment features a similar round-oval design. The dashboard features two displays that function respectively as clocks and the central touch screen of the multimedia system.[8]

Overseas markets

[edit]

Indonesia

[edit]

The Binguo was introduced in Indonesia on 16 November 2023 as the first country to market the Binguo outside China, with sales later commenced on 15 December 2023. In Indonesia, it is available with two variants, powered by 31.9 kWh (333 km) and 37.9 kWh (410 km) battery packs.[9][10]

In July 2025, the Binguo was updated in Indonesia with new exterior colours and new features. Two variants are available: Lite and Pro, powered by the 31.9 kWh (333 km) battery pack.[11]

Malaysia

[edit]

The TQ Bingo was launched in Malaysia on 17 December 2025, by distributor Tan Chong Motor (TCM). In Malaysia, it is available with two variants, Pro (31.9 kWh) and Max (37.9 kWh).[12]

Thailand

[edit]

The Binguo was launched in Thailand on 8 July 2024, by distributor EV Primus. Initially imported from Indonesia, it is available with two variants powered by the 31.9 kWh (333 km) battery pack.[13][14] Local assembly for the Thai-market commenced in June 2025 at the Laem Chabang plant.[15] In November 2025, the Binguo was updated in Thailand with new exterior colours, new interior upholsteries and new features. Two variants are available: Lite and Pro, powered by the 31.9 kWh (333 km) battery pack.[16]

Specifications

[edit]

The Binguo is available with two powertrain variants. The basic version develops 30 kW (40 hp; 41 PS), while the more powerful 50 kW (67 hp; 68 PS), although the top speed of both is limited to 100 km/h (62 mph). The manufacturer has also provided two available sets of batteries: the smaller 17.3 kWh allows the user to drive up to 203 km (126 mi) on a single charge according to the NEDC cycle, and the larger 31.9 kWh up to 333 km (207 mi).[17]

In September 2023, Wuling released the 410 km (255 mi) range version of the Binguo, powered by a 37.9 kWh LFP battery.[18]

Development and History

Background and Launch

The Wuling Binguo emerged as a strategic successor to the highly successful , which had captured significant in China's burgeoning sector following the 2020 EV adoption surge driven by government incentives and urban demand for affordable, compact mobility solutions. Designed to build on this momentum, the Binguo addressed the need for a slightly larger yet still economical option tailored to city dwellers navigating congested streets and short commutes, maintaining Wuling's emphasis on in the post-pandemic era of heightened EV interest. Development of the Binguo was undertaken by , beginning in 2022 as part of the company's expansion into more versatile electric city cars beyond the two-door Mini EV format. The model was officially unveiled in February 2023, with its public debut occurring at the Auto Show in April 2023, where it garnered attention for its practical five-door design. Full market launch followed shortly after in on March 29, 2023, marking SAIC-GM-Wuling's entry into the competitive A0-class subcompact EV segment with a focus on everyday usability. Positioned as an affordable urban , the Binguo debuted with an initial pricing strategy starting at CNY 59,800 for the base model, undercutting many rivals while offering enhanced and features for young buyers and families. This approach reinforced Wuling's reputation for value-driven EVs, with early production at the company's facilities quickly ramping up to meet demand; by September 2023, cumulative sales had surpassed 100,000 units in , just six months after launch. The model's introduction also laid the groundwork for planned international expansion, beginning with its debut in later that year.

Variants and Updates

The Wuling Binguo was initially launched in March 2023 with two core options: a base variant featuring a 30 kW permanent magnet and a higher-output version with a 50 kW motor, both paired with battery capacities of 17.3 kWh or 31.9 kWh, providing ranges of 203 km or 333 km under CLTC standards, respectively. In response to competitive pressures from models like the , production shifted toward higher-capacity batteries starting in 2024, incorporating 31.7 kWh and 37.9 kWh LFP packs to extend ranges to 410 km while introducing a water-cooled 50 kW motor for improved efficiency in upper trims. The Binguo Plus, introduced in March 2024 as a battery electric subcompact crossover variant, upgraded the to a 75 kW motor delivering 180 Nm of , with battery options up to 50.6 kWh enabling ranges of 330 km, 401 km, or 510 km CLTC, and included aerodynamic enhancements such as a raked and aluminum alloy wheels to optimize efficiency.
