Gaus Electronics is a South Korean television series adapted from the webtoon of the same name created by Kwak Baek-soo, which was serialized on Naver Webtoon from June 6, 2011, to October 25, 2019.[2] The original webtoon explores the intricacies of corporate life within a fictional electronics conglomerate, providing a foundation for the drama's portrayal of office dynamics.[6] The series was announced on May 16, 2022, as an original production for Olleh TV and Seezn, with its broadcast on ENA confirmed in September 2022. Promotional materials, including the first official poster, were released in August 2022.[8][9][10] Positioned as a workplace comedy aimed at young adult viewers, it highlights relatable themes of professional challenges and personal growth in a modern corporate setting.[11] Classified as a romantic workplace comedy-drama, Gaus Electronics premiered on the ENA cable network in South Korea, airing episodes every Friday and Saturday from September 30 to November 5, 2022, at 21:00 KST.[1] The production also streamed on platforms such as Olleh TV and Seezn, expanding its accessibility to a broader audience.[6]Production
Development
The development of Gaus Electronics began in late 2021 as an adaptation of the long-running Naver Webtoon by Kwak Baek-soo, which had amassed 2.6 billion views for its satirical take on office life.[12] The series was written by Kang Go-eun and Seo Han-na, who expanded the source material's episodic structure into a cohesive 12-episode narrative, and directed by Park Joon-soo, marking his return to workplace comedies following prior projects.[1] Production was handled by Fan Entertainment in collaboration with KT Studio Genie and Lingaring, with the project greenlit for Olleh TV as an original drama.[13][14] Key creative decisions centered on maintaining the webtoon's emphasis on a realistic portrayal of corporate culture within a multinational electronics firm, capturing the mundane absurdities of marketing team dynamics while avoiding overt exaggeration.[15] Script readings took place in August 2022, after the main cast was announced, enabling alignment on tone and pacing before principal photography commenced in the summer. This timeline facilitated a second-half 2022 premiere on ENA and streaming platforms.[16]Casting and filming
The casting process for Gaus Electronics began with Kwak Dong-yeon being offered and accepting the lead role of Lee Sang-sik, an employee in the marketing department, as early as November 2021.[17] The full main cast was confirmed in May 2022, with Ko Sung-hee (also known as Go Sung-hee) joining as Cha Na-rae, Bae Hyun-sung as Baek Ma-tan, and Kang Min-ah as Gun Kang-mi; their involvement was highlighted through subsequent announcements and a script reading event held on August 17, 2022, where the ensemble's dynamic interactions were first captured in stills.[18][16] Principal photography commenced in the summer of 2022 and took place primarily in Seoul, employing a mix of studio facilities and real office buildings to authentically replicate the corporate setting of a multinational electronics firm.[19] This approach emphasized the everyday office vibe central to the series' workplace comedy tone, with the director's vision for strong ensemble dynamics guiding on-set collaborations. Filming wrapped ahead of the fall premiere schedule, navigating standard industry protocols amid ongoing pandemic considerations. Post-production efforts, including editing and sound design, were finalized by early September 2022 to ensure a timely debut on September 30, 2022, via Olleh TV, Seezn, and ENA.[1]Cast and characters
Main cast
The main cast of Gaus Electronics features four lead actors portraying the core members of the Marketing 3 Division, whose interpersonal dynamics and professional challenges drive the series' narrative.[6] Kwak Dong-yeon stars as Lee Sang-sik, the team leader who possesses a bright personality but is often oblivious to others' moods, leading him to unintentionally stir office troubles while striving to maintain team harmony.[6] His portrayal highlights the character's earnest yet awkward navigation of leadership responsibilities and budding romantic tensions within the workplace.[1] Ko Sung-hee plays Cha Na-rae, the assistant manager and a competent professional with a fiery temper, who graduated from a prestigious university but grapples with the subtleties of office politics despite her evident talents.[6] She embodies the struggles of an overlooked yet capable employee pursuing personal growth amid gender-based workplace inequalities.[2] Bae Hyun-sung portrays Baek Ma-tan, a quiet new employee from a prominent family background, whose optimistic demeanor fosters key friendships and subtle romantic interests as he adapts to corporate life.[6] His role emphasizes the fresh perspective an intern-like newcomer brings to the team's collaborative efforts.[1] Kang Min-ah depicts Gun Kang-mi, regarded as the most beautiful member of the team, who balances creative contributions with humor while revealing emotional depth, particularly in her altered behavior when intoxicated.[6] This characterization adds layers to the office dynamics through her blend of poise and vulnerability.[4]Supporting cast
Baek Hyun-jin portrays Ki Sung-nam, a diligent team member whose observational skills and subtle humor contribute to the group's camaraderie and highlight everyday office absurdities.[6] Heo Jung-do plays Wi Jang-byeong, the Marketing Director and executive who provides guidance to the team while enforcing corporate expectations, often introducing tension through his authoritative presence.[6] Go Woo-ri appears as Sung Hyung-mi, serving as a supportive figure in the office, akin to a team secretary, who navigates the chaos with efficiency and occasional frustration.[6] Jo Jung-chi depicts Na Moo-myung, an inconspicuous team member whose low-key antics and lack of presence add to the comedic portrayal of overlooked employees in corporate settings.[6] Other recurring roles include Lee So-hee as Mo Hae-young, a colleague involved in departmental interactions, and Cha Yu-jin as Choi Dal-soon, contributing to inter-team rivalries and subplots.[6]Music
Original soundtrack
The original soundtrack for Gaus Electronics was released in five sequential parts by Genie Music and UPVOTE Entertainment, aligning with the series' weekly episodes from October 1 to October 29, 2022, before a comprehensive compilation album of 19 tracks was issued on November 7, 2022.[20][21] Each part typically included a vocal track performed by a prominent artist, accompanied by its instrumental version, while the full album incorporated additional background instrumentals composed for key scenes.[22] The soundtrack was produced through collaborations involving multiple composers and arrangers, such as Jeon Jun Gyu and Zeenan for several tracks, emphasizing a mix of emotional ballads and upbeat pop elements to underscore the series' workplace romance and comedic dynamics.[23][24] These styles appear prominently in emotional climax scenes, enhancing character-driven moments of tension and resolution.[25] The five main vocal tracks, released as focal points for each part, are as follows:| Part | Release Date | Track Title | Artist | Duration |

Theme songs
The opening theme song for Gaus Electronics is "DIAMOND" (눈이 부신다) by LUCY, an upbeat rock track that captures the series' blend of office comedy and budding romance through its lively rhythm and sparkling production. Released on October 1, 2022, as the first part of the official soundtrack, the song plays consistently during the intro sequence of every episode, setting a tone of energetic camaraderie among the characters in the electronics company's marketing team.[31][22] The lyrics of "DIAMOND," penned by Jeon Jun-kyu and Zeenan, emphasize themes of precious, dazzling connections akin to jewels, urging listeners to draw closer in moments of joy and vulnerability, which ties directly into the webtoon-adapted motifs of workplace relationships and personal growth. This intent aligns with the drama's humorous yet heartfelt exploration of corporate life, using the track's soft rock sound to evoke the "hustle" of daily routines while hinting at deeper emotional bonds.[31][32] While no fixed ending theme is designated across all episodes, the closing credits often feature reflective ballads from the OST, such as "Because I Love You" by Kim Jong Wan of NELL, a modern rock ballad released on October 7, 2022, that underscores personal reflection and work-life balance. The song's lyrics convey a sincere confession of love and longing for companionship, mirroring the characters' after-hours introspection and evolving dynamics, with variations selected to match specific episode arcs like team resolutions or romantic developments.[31]Release and reception
