Key influences

Club des Belugas' music draws heavily from mid-20th-century and lounge traditions, particularly the of the 1950s, as evidenced by their 2006 remix of Dean Martin's "Mambo Italiano," which infuses the original track with nu-jazz elements while preserving its playful, upbeat rhythm. This nod to classic lounge crooners like Martin reflects the band's appreciation for the sophisticated, cocktail-hour vibe of postwar American entertainment, blending it with modern production techniques to create accessible, danceable reinterpretations. The group's sound also incorporates and broader Brazilian influences, evident in early tracks that feature laid-back percussion and melodic structures inspired by the genre's origins in 1950s Rio de Janeiro, such as their bossa-inflected remixes and original compositions with syncopated rhythms and gentle guitar lines. These elements stem from a deliberate fusion of European nu-jazz with Latin American beats, creating a tropical lounge aesthetic that permeates their debut works and establishes a foundation for their global appeal. Soul influences, particularly from American Black Soul of the 1950s through 1970s, shape the band's vocal arrangements and groove-oriented instrumentation, as seen in collaborations with soulful vocalists who evoke the emotive delivery characteristic of the era, layered over electronic backings. Contemporary European electro elements further modernize these roots, with synthesizers and downtempo beats drawing from 1990s and 2000s club scenes, allowing the band to bridge vintage soul warmth with pulsating, synth-driven energy in tracks that highlight rhythmic interplay between acoustic and digital sounds. Latin rhythms provide a rhythmic backbone, incorporating salsa-like percussion and mambo swings that add infectious energy to their lounge framework, often derived from Caribbean and South American traditions adapted into nu-jazz contexts. In more recent works, such as 2024-2025 singles like "Disco Dogs" (2024) and "Drive Sister Drive" (2025), the band adapts to the streaming era by integrating chillout and grooves, reflecting influences from electronic dance subgenres with shimmering synths and funky basslines to maintain relevance in digital playlists.
