La Liga Awards
View on Wikipedia
The La Liga Awards, previously known as the LFP awards, are presented annually by the Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP) to the best players and coach in La Liga, the first division of association football in Spain. Established in the 2008–09 season, they were the first official awards in the history of the Spanish competition.[1] La Liga's best coach and player in each position—goalkeeper, defender, midfielder, and forward—were chosen based on a voting by the captain and vice-captains of each club, while the best player overall was determined via statistical analysis.[2]
Many of the awards were rebranded after the 2015–16 season.[3] Until then, Barcelona players won 32 honours in the six main categories, almost triple the number of any other club. Barcelona's forward Lionel Messi has been named La Liga's best player for six times and La Liga's best forward for seven times, both all-time records. Across all positions, the other outstanding individuals are Barcelona midfielder Andrés Iniesta with five wins, Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola with four wins, Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos with four wins, and goalkeepers Iker Casillas of Real Madrid and Víctor Valdés of Barcelona with two wins each.

History and Evolution
The La Liga Awards trace their origins to the 2008–09 season, when they were established as the LFP Awards by the Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP), initially emphasizing annual individual honors for outstanding players and coaches in Spain's top division.[2] These early accolades recognized categories such as Best Player, Best Forward, and Best Coach, with the first ceremony honoring achievements from the 2008–09 season. Monthly awards were introduced in 2013 for Player of the Month and Goal of the Month, expanding recognition to highlight consistent performances throughout the campaign.[10] A key milestone came in the 2013-14 season with the debut of the Best African Player award, aimed at celebrating contributions from players of African origin and broadening the awards' inclusivity.[11] Following the 2015-16 season, the annual gala was paused until its revival in the 2023–24 season under the rebranded La Liga Awards, aligning more closely with the league's global identity. During this period, several positional awards—such as Best Goalkeeper, Best Defender, and Best Midfielder—were discontinued to streamline categories and refocus on core honors, coinciding with the cancellation of the 2016-17 annual gala.[2] In the 2020s, the awards evolved further with expansions including the Manager of the Season category, which built on earlier iterations but gained renewed prominence upon revival, and the Under-23 Player of the Season, introduced in the 2023–24 campaign and presented in partnership with Riyadh Season starting from 2024–25 to spotlight emerging talents. The Save of the Season award was also added in the 2024–25 campaign, complementing monthly save recognitions. The 2024-25 season exemplified Barcelona's resurgence, as the club secured multiple honors: Raphinha earned Player of the Season for his pivotal role with 18 goals and 11 assists, Hansi Flick was named Manager of the Season in his debut year leading the team to the title, and Lamine Yamal claimed the Under-23 Player of the Season award with nine goals and 13 assists.[8][12]Selection and Voting Process
The selection and voting process for the La Liga Awards is managed by the Liga de Fútbol Profesional (LFP), ensuring a standardized approach across all categories. Nominations are determined by an LFP panel that evaluates player and team performances using statistical data, such as goals, assists, clean sheets, and advanced metrics provided by Opta, La Liga's official statistics partner. This panel shortlists candidates based on objective criteria like match contributions and impact during the season or month, with nominees typically announced mid-month for monthly awards and toward the end of the season for annual ones.[4] Final winners are decided through a combined voting system that integrates input from multiple stakeholders to balance popularity, expertise, and peer recognition. The process allocates votes to fans, who cast ballots via the official LaLiga app or the MILIGA platform; the captains and coaches of all 20 La Liga clubs; and a panel of media experts.[9] Annual awards, including Player of the Season, Manager of the Season, and Team of the Season, are announced at the end of the season in May or June, following the aggregation of votes from all participants. The Team of the Season, for instance, relies on collective voter selections across positions, drawing from the same statistical and performance data used in nominations. Monthly awards, covering the period from August to May, follow a similar nomination timeline but with voting concluding before the subsequent matchday to allow timely recognition.[4] Category-specific procedures incorporate tailored elements while adhering to the core voting framework. For Goal of the Season and Save of the Season, nominations involve highlight reviews by the LFP panel, focusing on aesthetic and technical quality alongside statistical context. The African Player of the Season features targeted input from African media representatives and fans within the general voting pool to ensure regional relevance. The Under-23 Player of the Season is restricted to players aged 23 or under who meet minimum participation thresholds, such as 1,500 minutes played in their debut La Liga season.[13] The voting process integrates fan input via the MiLiga platform alongside captains, coaches, and experts.[7]Active Annual Awards
Player of the Season
The Player of the Season is the premier annual individual award presented by La Liga to recognize the top overall performer in the league during a given season. Introduced in the 2013–14 season, it honors the most influential player based on their comprehensive impact across various positions, encompassing offensive and defensive contributions that significantly influence team success. The award, sometimes referred to in association with the Trofeo Alfredo Di Stéfano tradition from media outlets like MARCA, underscores the league's emphasis on holistic excellence rather than position-specific achievements.[13][14] The selection criteria focus on overall contributions, including goals, assists, defensive actions, leadership on the pitch, and consistency throughout the season, as determined by a voting process involving captains, coaches, journalists, and fans. This broad evaluation ensures the winner exemplifies the highest standards of performance in La Liga. Lionel Messi holds the record for the most wins with four awards (2014–15, 2016–17, 2017–18, 2018–19), highlighting his dominant influence during that era.[13][14] Notable winners have included midfielders, forwards, and even goalkeepers, reflecting the award's versatility. For instance, Jude Bellingham's 2023–24 victory came on the back of 19 goals and 6 assists in 28 appearances, driving Real Madrid's title charge. Similarly, Raphinha claimed the 2024–25 honor with 18 goals and 9 assists in 35 matches, pivotal to Barcelona's successful campaign. Barcelona holds the record for the most wins by a club with six, underscoring their historical dominance in producing standout performers.[12][15] The full list of winners is as follows:| Season | Winner | Club |

| 2013–14 | Cristiano Ronaldo | Real Madrid |

| 2024–25 | Raphinha | Barcelona |
Goalkeeper of the Season
The Goalkeeper of the Season award, introduced in the 2010–11 season as part of the La Liga Awards, honors the top goalkeeper for their comprehensive defensive contributions over the full campaign. Distinct from the Ricardo Zamora Trophy—which recognizes the goalkeeper with the lowest goals-conceded-per-match ratio, a stat-based honor established by Marca in 1958—this award emphasizes a holistic assessment of performance, including save percentage, clean sheets achieved, and distribution metrics such as pass completion rates and command of the penalty area.[17] The selection process relies on votes from team captains and deputy captains, prioritizing consistent excellence in high-pressure situations over isolated statistics. Key criteria highlight goalkeepers who excel in shot-stopping while contributing to build-up play, with examples like high save percentages (often above 75%) and accurate long passes aiding counter-attacks. Jan Oblak holds the record for most wins with four between 2016 and 2024, underscoring his dominance in these areas during Atlético Madrid's title challenges.[18] Notable recipients include Jan Oblak, who claimed multiple awards for his pivotal role at Atlético Madrid, where he recorded numerous clean sheets and a league-leading save percentage. This award frequently aligns with selections for the Team of the Season, where the winner serves as the designated goalkeeper, reflecting their peer-recognized impact on defensive solidity. For the 2024–25 season, Joan García of RCD Espanyol was selected as the Team of the Season goalkeeper, highlighting his standout performances including high save percentages in Espanyol's campaign.[19][20]Manager of the Season
The Manager of the Season award recognizes the La Liga manager whose tactical acumen, leadership, and strategic decisions have most significantly driven team success during the season. Introduced as part of the broader La Liga Awards in the 2012–13 season, it honors contributions to overall performance, including high points totals, innovative style of play, and effective player development. The selection process originally involved voting by team captains and deputy captains from all La Liga clubs, later incorporating journalists and fan votes in some years to reflect a balanced assessment of managerial impact.[1] The award underscores the role of coaching in elevating team achievements, often favoring managers who guide their sides to league titles or European qualification amid challenging circumstances. Criteria emphasize not only results but also qualitative aspects like squad cohesion and tactical adaptability, distinguishing it from monthly honors by focusing on season-long consistency.[21] Diego Simeone holds the record for the most wins with three, all with Atlético Madrid, highlighting his defensive mastery and ability to maximize limited resources. His victories came in 2012–13 (third place finish with Copa del Rey win), 2013–14 (league title), and 2015–16 (runners-up with Champions League final appearance). Foreign managers have also excelled, exemplified by Germany's Hansi Flick in 2024–25, who led Barcelona to the title with 88 points, 102 goals scored, and a +63 goal difference—an improvement of 28 from the prior season's +35.[22][23][24][25][26][27]| Season | Winner | Team | Key Achievement |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2012–13 | Diego Simeone | Atlético Madrid | 3rd place, Copa del Rey title |
| 2013–14 | Diego Simeone | Atlético Madrid | La Liga title |
| 2014–15 | Luis Enrique | Barcelona | La Liga and treble |
| 2015–16 | Diego Simeone | Atlético Madrid | 2nd place, Champions League final |
| 2023–24 | Míchel | Girona | 3rd place finish, surprise title challenge |
| 2024–25 | Hansi Flick | Barcelona | La Liga title, +63 GD |
Under-23 Player of the Season
The Under-23 Player of the Season is an annual La Liga award recognizing the most promising and impactful performer aged 23 or younger during the regular season, with eligibility typically limited to players who have played a significant number of minutes (at least 1,500 in some contexts) and demonstrated high potential through goals, assists, and overall contributions.[13] Introduced for the 2023–24 campaign as part of La Liga's efforts to highlight emerging talents, the award considers factors like technical skill, consistency, and influence on team success, selected via a combination of expert votes, statistical analysis, and fan input.[4] Since its inception, FC Barcelona has dominated the award, securing both editions to date through prodigious wingers from its La Masia academy. In 2023–24, Lamine Yamal became the inaugural winner at just 16 years old, the youngest ever to claim the honor, after recording 5 goals and 10 assists in 35 league appearances while helping Barcelona challenge for the title.[29] Yamal repeated the feat in 2024–25, edging out finalists Pedri (Barcelona) and Alberto Moleiro (Las Palmas) with 9 goals and 13 assists across 35 matches, setting a benchmark for creative output among young players and contributing to Barcelona's domestic treble.[8][30] The award's global reach has been amplified since 2024 through a partnership with Riyadh Season, which supports its presentation and promotes La Liga's young stars internationally.[8] Notable nominees across seasons include Gavi (Barcelona) in 2023–24, alongside talents like Arda Güler (Real Madrid) and Gabri Veiga (Al Ahli), underscoring the award's role in spotlighting a diverse pool of rising prospects regardless of nationality.[4]| Season | Winner | Club | Key Stats (La Liga) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2023–24 | Lamine Yamal | Barcelona | 5 goals, 10 assists (35 apps) |
| 2024–25 | Lamine Yamal | Barcelona | 9 goals, 13 assists (35 apps) |
African Player of the Season
The African Player of the Season award recognizes the outstanding performance of a player of African nationality or origin in La Liga each year. Introduced during the 2013–14 season as the Best African Player award within the broader LFP Awards framework, it highlights the contributions of African talents to Spanish football.[31] The award evaluates candidates based on key performance indicators, including goals scored, assists provided, and overall impact on team achievements, restricted to players eligible through African heritage or citizenship.[32] In the 2020s, it underwent rebranding to the LaLiga EA Sports African MVP and later the Sporty La Liga African MVP, emphasizing its focus on most valuable player status among African competitors.[33] Selection involves a hybrid voting system incorporating public fan ballots via LaLiga platforms alongside input from a specialized panel of African media experts and journalists, ensuring a balanced assessment of continental perspectives.[32] The inaugural recipient was Algerian midfielder Yacine Brahimi of Granada CF, who earned the honor for his pivotal role in the team's midfield during the 2013–14 campaign.[31] Subsequent winners have included fellow Algerians like Sofiane Feghouli (Valencia CF, 2014–15), Moroccans such as Yassine Bounou (Sevilla FC, 2021–22), Nigerians including Samuel Chukwueze (Villarreal CF, 2022–23), and Ghanaians in recent years.[34][35] A landmark achievement came with Iñaki Williams of Athletic Club, who secured back-to-back victories in 2023–24 and 2024–25, becoming the first player to win the award consecutively and marking the initial dominance by a Ghanaian recipient in its history.[36][37] In 2023–24, Williams tallied 12 goals, contributing significantly to Athletic Bilbao's competitive standing, while his 2024–25 performance further solidified his record with 14 goal involvements across the season.[36][38] These wins underscore Williams' dual record for most awards (two) and highlight a recent surge in Ghanaian representation among La Liga's top African performers.[33]Goal of the Season
The Goal of the Season award recognizes the most spectacular goal scored in La Liga during a given campaign, emphasizing aesthetic quality and fan appeal. Introduced as part of the LFP Awards for the 2013–14 season, it highlights individual moments of brilliance from regular-season matches, distinct from monthly accolades that honor periodic highlights. The award underscores La Liga's commitment to celebrating creativity and skill in goalscoring.[1] The selection process begins with experts, such as journalists Axel Torres and Maldini, identifying a shortlist of standout goals based on technical merit and context, typically narrowing to 10 nominees from across all matches in La Liga and the second division. Public voting then determines the winner through the official LFP website (now LaLiga.com), where fans watch video clips and cast votes after viewing each entry in full. This fan-driven phase ensures the award reflects widespread appreciation for elements like technique, distance, and match importance. Votes are open for a limited period, culminating in the announcement at the annual La Liga Awards ceremony.[1][39][40] Notable records include Cristiano Ronaldo's achievement in the inaugural 2013–14 season, where his long-range strike against Valencia CF not only won the Best Goal but also made him the only player to claim Best Player, Best Forward, and Best Goal in the same year. Examples of exceptional distance include long-range efforts recognized in various campaigns, such as free-kicks and volleys from beyond 30 yards. The award has spotlighted emerging talents alongside established stars, with winners often featuring acrobatic volleys or precision strikes in high-stakes fixtures.[41]| Season | Winner | Club | Goal Description |

Save of the Season
The Save of the Season is an annual award presented by La Liga to recognize the goalkeeper responsible for the most impressive defensive action in the LALIGA EA SPORTS during a given campaign. The award highlights a single standout save judged for its technical brilliance and contribution to the game's dynamics. Nominees, typically numbering 5-10 per season, are selected through expert video analysis of key moments across all matches.[43] The award debuted in the 2024-25 season, with Atlético Madrid's Jan Oblak earning the distinction for a critical save in a 1-1 draw against Real Sociedad. Oblak's intervention, denying a close-range effort, proved pivotal in securing the point for his team. He prevailed over finalists including Joan García of RCD Espanyol and Diego Conde of Villarreal CF, underscoring the competitive nature of the selection.[43] As of 2025, Oblak holds the record for the most wins with one, reflecting the award's emphasis on point-blank stops in high-stakes scenarios. The accolade crowns the season's premier defensive highlight, often drawing from monthly contenders to identify the ultimate moment of goalkeeping excellence.[43]Winners

Team of the Season
The Team of the Season is an annual honor within the La Liga Awards, recognizing the top 11 players from the league based on their positional performances and contributions to collective excellence throughout the campaign. Introduced in the 2016–17 season, the selection typically adopts a 4-3-3 formation, with voters reaching consensus on the best performer in each role, such as goalkeeper, defenders, midfielders, and forwards.[44] The voting process aligns with other individual La Liga Awards, combining input from club captains, a panel of experts, and public fan votes to determine the lineup. The selected team is announced during the annual La Liga Awards gala, emphasizing balanced representation across positions rather than singular standout moments. In 2020, the award expanded to include the Manager of the Season alongside the 11 players, acknowledging tactical and leadership impacts on overall team dynamics.[4] For the 2024–25 season, FC Barcelona achieved a record seven inclusions in the LALIGA EA SPORTS Team of the Season, reflecting their dominant campaign under Hansi Flick, who was named the accompanying coach. The full lineup featured Joan García (Espanyol) in goal; defenders Jules Koundé, Pau Cubarsí, and Iñigo Martínez (all Barcelona), alongside Dani Vivian (Athletic Club); midfielders Pedri (Barcelona), Federico Valverde (Real Madrid), and Jude Bellingham (Real Madrid); and forwards Raphinha, Lamine Yamal, and Robert Lewandowski (all Barcelona), with Kylian Mbappé (Real Madrid) rounding out the attack in a fluid 4-3-3 setup. This Barcelona-heavy composition underscored their league-leading goal output and defensive solidity, with key players like Yamal and Raphinha earning spots through high-impact goals and assists.[45][46] Notable records highlight the award's history of celebrating sustained excellence, with Lionel Messi holding the mark for most inclusions at 10 across his La Liga tenure, spanning multiple seasons of record-breaking creativity and scoring. FC Barcelona's seven representatives in 2024–25 established the benchmark for the most players from one club in a single edition, surpassing previous highs set by title-winning sides. Player of the Season winners frequently overlap with Team selections, as seen with Raphinha's dual honors in 2024–25.[47]Active Monthly Awards
Player of the Month
The La Liga Player of the Month award was introduced in August 2013 to recognize the outstanding performer in the Spanish top-flight league for each month of the season. The selection criteria focus on individual contributions such as goals, assists, and overall influence on team performance across typically 4-5 matches, with winners determined through a voting process involving fans, club captains, and expert panels.[4] This monthly honor highlights consistent excellence and has become a key indicator of form, often foreshadowing annual accolades like Player of the Season. Over the years, the award has showcased a mix of domestic and international talent, with shared wins being rare but notable, such as the joint award in February 2019 to Lionel Messi and Luis Suárez of Barcelona during a dominant run. Lionel Messi holds the record for the most wins with 6, all as a foreign player, underscoring his unparalleled impact. In 2025, Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid set a recent benchmark for foreign players by securing consecutive awards in September and October, contributing 7 goals and 3 assists across those months.[48] In the ongoing 2025-26 season, Nicolas Pépé of Villarreal CF claimed the August award for his performances in the opening fixtures. Mbappé then dominated September with 4 goals and 2 assists in high-stakes matches, retaining the honor in October through another 3 goals and 1 assist amid Real Madrid's title push. As of November 15, 2025, the November winner remains pending announcement. These early wins reflect the competitive individual honors across clubs. Ties are infrequent, with only a handful recorded since inception; for instance, the 2019-20 season saw a shared February award between Messi and Suárez after both scored hat-tricks in consecutive games, emphasizing collaborative brilliance. The award's focus on holistic influence distinguishes it from goal-specific recognitions, prioritizing players who elevate their teams across competitions. The full list of winners from 2013 to October 2025 is presented below, organized by season and month. Note that no award is given for July due to the off-season, and May awards cover the season's conclusion.| Season | August | September | October | November | December | January | February | March | April | May |

Under-23 Player of the Month
The Under-23 Player of the Month award recognizes the most outstanding performer aged 22 or younger in La Liga matches during each month of the season, highlighting emerging talents through their contributions on the pitch. Introduced for the 2023–24 season, the award follows criteria similar to the main Player of the Month but restricts eligibility to players born on or after September 1 of the relevant year, ensuring focus on youth development. Nominees are selected based on statistical performance data provided by Opta, including goals, assists, and other key metrics, before the winner is determined by public fan voting on the official LaLiga platform.[51] The award's purpose is to scout and promote young players, aiding clubs and fans in identifying future stars via objective youth-focused analytics from Opta, which track metrics like progressive passes, dribbles, and defensive actions tailored to under-23 profiles. This monthly recognition often serves as a stepping stone to the annual Under-23 Player of the Season, with multiple monthly winners progressing to claim the year-end honor based on cumulative impact. For instance, winners are celebrated for their role in team success, such as breaking into starting lineups or delivering decisive moments in high-stakes fixtures. Lamine Yamal of FC Barcelona holds the record for the most wins with three, achieved during the 2023–24, 2024–25, and 2025–26 seasons, including August 2023 (his debut win at age 16), August 2024, and February 2025.[52][53] Yamal also set the record as the youngest recipient, earning the August 2023 award at 16 years and 26 days old, underscoring the award's emphasis on prodigious breakthroughs. Other notable multiple winners include Fábio Silva (Las Palmas) with two awards in the 2024–25 season, demonstrating sustained excellence among young forwards.[54] In the 2025–26 season, Adrián Liso of Getafe CF claimed the August award for his debut-season impact with a goal and assist against top sides. Earlier examples include Arda Güler (Real Madrid) winning in September 2025 for two goals and creative playmaking. These selections highlight how the award tracks progression, with monthly honorees like Yamal often culminating in annual accolades, as seen in his 2024–25 Under-23 Player of the Season triumph.[8][55][56]Manager of the Month
The La Liga Manager of the Month award was introduced in the 2013–14 season to recognize the head coach whose team delivers the strongest overall performance in league matches during a given month. The selection criteria prioritize the number of points accumulated from La Liga games, with ties broken by goals scored and goals conceded to reflect both offensive and defensive effectiveness. This monthly honor underscores the impact of coaching strategies on team results, such as maximizing points through tactical setups and squad management. The award's debut went to Marcelino García Toral of Villarreal CF in September 2013, after his side collected 10 points from four fixtures, including three victories and one draw, marking a solid opening to the campaign. Since then, it has been presented at the end of each month from August through May, excluding the summer break, with winners announced via official La Liga channels in partnership with sponsors like Microsoft. The award highlights managerial consistency, as teams under award-winning coaches often exhibit high win rates and goal differentials during the period. Several managers have accumulated multiple wins, demonstrating sustained excellence across seasons. Diego Simeone of Atlético Madrid holds one of the highest tallies with five awards, including victories in October 2023 for guiding his team to maximum points in four games and December 2024 for a seven-match winning streak that propelled Atlético to the top of the table. Other notable repeat winners include Hansi Flick, who secured four monthly awards during the 2024–25 season (August, October, February, and March), contributing to his overall success that year. Ernesto Valverde of Athletic Club has also earned multiple honors, such as in September 2024 for an unbeaten run yielding 10 points from four matches. The award often serves as a precursor to broader recognition, with frequent monthly winners positioning themselves favorably for the annual Manager of the Season accolade by showcasing tactical prowess over an extended period. To provide a comprehensive overview, the following table lists all known winners up to October 2025, compiled from official announcements. Earlier seasons (2013–14 to 2023–24) feature a diverse set of recipients, including Francisco (Elche CF) as the first to win twice in a single season (November 2013 and February 2014), and consistent performers like Unai Emery and Zinedine Zidane. Goal of the Month
The La Liga Goal of the Month award recognizes the most spectacular goal scored in La Liga matches during each calendar month of the season, highlighting moments of technical brilliance, creativity, and athleticism that captivate fans. Introduced as part of La Liga's expanding monthly honors, the award emphasizes offensive highlights from league fixtures, with winners selected through public voting to reflect fan appreciation for standout strikes. Nominees, typically limited to three per month, are chosen by La Liga's editorial team based on goals scored in official matches, and voting occurs via the official La Liga website and app, where supporters cast ballots for their favorite from video highlights. This process ensures the award captures the pulse of the league's excitement, often favoring long-range efforts, acrobatic finishes, or precise curls that demonstrate exceptional skill. The award has showcased a trend toward acrobatic and audacious goals, with winners frequently including overhead kicks, volleys, and bicycle attempts that push the boundaries of what's possible in open play. For instance, in April 2024, FC Barcelona's João Félix claimed the honor for his stunning overhead kick against Cádiz CF, a goal that not only secured a vital win but exemplified the flair rewarded by the award. Such moments contribute to the award's role in promoting La Liga's reputation for aesthetic football, with monthly victors automatically nominated for the season-long Goal of the Season accolade at the end-of-year ceremony. Records for the award reflect the dominance of elite forwards and midfielders, though comprehensive tallies are maintained by La Liga. Lionel Messi holds the record for the most wins with 12, underscoring his legacy of memorable strikes during his Barcelona tenure. Recent seasons have seen diverse winners, including defenders and midfielders, broadening the award's appeal beyond traditional scorers.Recent Winners (2025 Season)

Save of the Month
The Best Save of the Month is a monthly accolade awarded by LaLiga in association with EA Sports, honoring the goalkeeper who makes the most remarkable save in LaLiga EA Sports fixtures during a given month from August to May. Launched for the 2024–25 season, the award underscores pivotal defensive moments that exemplify goalkeeping excellence, often turning the tide of matches through sheer athleticism and precision.[59] Nominations are selected by LaLiga's production team from standout saves across the month's matches, focusing on criteria such as technical difficulty (e.g., reflex saves, acrobatic dives, or long-range stops), the goalkeeper's positioning and reaction speed, and the save's contextual impact (e.g., denying a certain goal in a tied game or late in play). The winner is decided by fan voting on the official LaLiga website and mobile app, where supporters select from three to five nominees; the save with the plurality of votes prevails. For instance, in August 2025, FC Barcelona's Joan García secured 52.3% of votes for his point-blank denial of Rayo Vallecano's Andrei Rațiu during a 1–1 draw, preventing a potential loss early in the 2025–26 campaign.[60][61] As of November 2025, Joan García holds the record for the most wins with three (February and March 2025 for RCD Espanyol, August 2025 for FC Barcelona), including the first consecutive victories in the award's history during February–March 2025, when his reflex stops helped his relegation-threatened side earn crucial points. Jan Oblak follows with two wins (October 2024 and October 2025 for Atlético de Madrid). Other multiple winners from the inaugural 2024–25 season include Diego Conde and Marko Dmitrović, each with two. The award has featured goalkeepers from four nationalities: Spanish (eight winners), Serbian (Marko Dmitrović), Slovenian (Jan Oblak), and Norwegian (Ørjan Nyland). The first non-Spanish recipient was Serbian Marko Dmitrović for his double save in Leganés' 2–1 win over Getafe in September 2024.[62][63][64] In the 2025 calendar year, notable examples include García's consecutive triumphs in February (a diving stop against Valencia) and March (an acrobatic clearance versus Real Madrid), which highlighted his role in Espanyol's survival bid before his summer 2025 transfer to Barcelona. Oblak's October 2025 win came from a stunning one-handed parry to deny Real Valladolid's Iván Sánchez at point-blank range in a 2–0 victory, earning 48.7% of fan votes and marking his repeat success in the month. These moments not only celebrate individual prowess but also contribute to team narratives, with monthly winners automatically nominated for the end-of-season Save of the Season award.[64]| Month | Winner | Club | Nationality | Save Description (Key Match) |

Discontinued Awards
Best Forward
The Best Forward award was a discontinued annual accolade presented by La Liga from the 2008–09 season through the 2015–16 season, honoring the outstanding forward based on their performance across the campaign. Selected via votes from the captains and deputy captains of all 20 La Liga clubs, the award evaluated forwards on criteria including goal-scoring output, conversion efficiency, overall influence on team play, and consistency in high-stakes matches.[1][66] This positional prize frequently spotlighted players who were frontrunners for the Pichichi Trophy, La Liga's official top goalscorer honor, underscoring the award's focus on prolific strikers who combined volume with clinical finishing. For instance, recipients often exceeded 30 goals in a season while contributing to their teams' title challenges or European successes.[2] Lionel Messi of Barcelona dominated the award, securing it a record seven times and establishing himself as the most successful winner in its history. Cristiano Ronaldo of Real Madrid claimed the honor once, interrupting Messi's streak. The full list of winners is as follows:| Season | Winner | Club |

Best Attacking Midfielder
The Best Attacking Midfielder award recognized the most outstanding offensive midfielder in La Liga each season, emphasizing players who excelled in creative roles such as playmaking and supporting attacks from midfield positions. Introduced as part of the LFP Awards in the 2009–10 season, it ran until 2015–16 and was determined through votes by La Liga team captains, deputy captains, department heads, and journalists, who evaluated performances based on key metrics like assists provided, chances created, and overall influence in the final third.[1] The award captured the dominance of FC Barcelona's midfield during the Xavi and Andrés Iniesta era, with Barcelona securing four wins in total as Iniesta claimed the honor three times for his visionary passing and unparalleled chance creation—most notably in 2010–11, when he recorded 10 assists and numerous key passes in Barcelona's title-winning campaign.[70] Other notable recipients included Sevilla's Jesús Navas in the inaugural 2009–10 edition, praised for his 11 assists and dynamic wing contributions that helped Sevilla finish fourth, and Real Madrid's James Rodríguez in 2014–15, who tallied 9 assists in his debut season to edge out competitors with his technical flair.[71] Iniesta's three victories stand as the record for most wins in the category, underscoring his status as La Liga's premier trequartista during a period of innovative, possession-oriented football. The award was discontinued after 2015–16 to consolidate categories into broader positional honors like Best Midfielder, aiming for a more streamlined recognition system amid evolving league priorities.[2] Its legacy endures in highlighting the artistry of attacking midfielders who bridged defense and attack, celebrating players like Iniesta whose subtle genius in chance creation and assist provision exemplified the technical evolution of Spanish football in the early 2010s.Best Midfielder
The Best Midfielder award, part of the LFP Awards from the 2008–09 season to the 2015–16 season, recognized the top central midfielder in La Liga based on voting by the captains and deputy captains of all 20 La Liga teams, who evaluated players' overall contributions in their position.[72] The award highlighted players excelling in defensive duties like tackles, creative play through accurate passes, and maintaining team balance, often favoring box-to-box performers who influenced both ends of the pitch.[73] It was distinct from the Best Attacking Midfielder category by emphasizing central, more balanced roles over purely offensive ones. The award's winners were dominated by players from Barcelona and Real Madrid, reflecting the competitive depth in those clubs' midfields during the period. Xavi Hernández of Barcelona claimed the honor three consecutive times from 2008–09 to 2010–11, lauded for his visionary passing and control in Barcelona's tiki-taka system, which helped secure three straight La Liga titles.[73] Xabi Alonso of Real Madrid won in 2011–12, recognized for his composure in breaking up play and precise long-range distribution during Real Madrid's record-breaking 100-point season.[74] Asier Illarramendi of Real Sociedad broke the big-club monopoly in 2012–13, earning praise for his energetic recoveries and progressive passing in a season where Real Sociedad finished fourth.[75]| Season | Winner | Club |
